A river runs through Naperville, a city located 28 miles west of Chicago’s Loop. It adds natural beauty to this city that is often cited for its high quality of life. One of the other factors that contributeS to this city's high standard of living is a wealth of condos.
The river that wends through the downtown district is the DuPage River. It offers condo dwellers a chance to have homes with gorgeous views of the water and trees.
Visitors often are drawn to Naperville to spend an afternoon along one of the city’s best amenities, the Riverwalk. It features four miles of brick paths running along the river, covered bridges, fountains, and lush landscaping. It was built and dedicated in 1981 as a celebration of Naperville’s Sesquicentennial (150th) anniversary.
The Riverwalk has become a focal point and gathering place for the community. It even as a bell that tolls prettily from a carillon that was added in 2000 to mark the Millennium.
Naperville’s downtown, which surrounds the Riverwalk, is a lively place where shopping, dining and night life are thriving. Restaurants, from independently-own bistros, such as one specializing in Cuban cuisine to another that offer rustic Italian fare to an Irish pub specializing in pub grub and Irish music, as well as national chain restaurants are filling tables with hungry people who have made the city a dining destination.
Shops also are bustling with people here. There are antique shops, bookstores, interesting gift boutiques and high-end clothing stores that have nationally-known names such as Eddie Bauer, Chico's and Talbotts.
Naperville was founded by Joseph Naper, the man for whom the city was name. He created the first plat for it in 1842. It was organized as a city in 1890. Though it was mainly a farming community for many years, Naperville also had some businesses including a furniture company that was the city’s largest employer and a brewery that shipped beer regionally.
The city’s big boost in growth came in the 1950s when the East-West Tollway was built. Naperville remains easily accessible today. It has two commuter rail stations.
Condos come in all shapes and sizes in Naperville. A high-rise condo building with views of the Riverwalk is River Place Condominiums. While 520 South Washington is the high-end of the market, buyers with less money to spend will find plenty of options for condos in Naperville. Indeed, a one-bedroom unit that is outside of the business district, but within easy driving distance, can easily be found starting at $100,000.
Consistently mentioned as one of the best places to live in the Chicago area, the range of condos in Naperville is one of its best assets. Condos here are sure to appreciate as Naperville's reputation continues to be a strong and continues to attract buyers. |
