Want a condo in the city, but not the stress of an urban setting? Green lawns, stately, older homes and new and renovated condos make up the residential landscape in Chicago's Beverly neighborhood. A condo here offers the best of both worlds: the convenience of being in the city and the serenity of a suburban-like setting.
This community on Chicago's far south side and boasts a large Irish American community. It is the place to find a cozy Irish pub or take part in the annual South Side Irish Parade. Residents paint their neighborhood grreen at the parade, the largest such event in the country and an affair that attracts bagpipers and Irish dancers.
There are plenty of other ways to spend your time in Beverly. You need only take a walk in the neighborhood to be impressed by its architecture. Structural gems of nearly any style you may imagine can be found in Beverly: Queen Annes, Victorians, Arts and Crafts, Prairie, Italianate, and Dutch Colonial, even a replica of an Irish castle.
The Givens castle as is at 10244 S. Longwood Drive, an historic district and street lined flanked on both sides by lovely, vintage homes. The story goes that an American businessman, Robert Givens, was trying to persuade his Irish fiance to move to Chicago and so arranged to have a duplicate of her family castle in Ireland built here with the very same stone used in the original.
If a condo is the castle of your dream then there is surely one to suit your desires in Beverly. Condos are priced starting at about $280,000 to $300,000 and up. These may be in renovated vintage structure or in new construction. They have granite counters, hardwood floors, stainless steel appliances and the contemporary amenities that condo buyers seek.
Although condos also come with garages, you may not need a car if you select a condo that is near the Illinois Centrail Train station where trains stop to take commuters to Chicago's Loop.
The neigborhood's other amenities include the Chicago Public Library and scenic forest preserve propety at Dan Ryan Woods.
