Aurora has an historic theatre, a science and technology musuem, a riverboat casino, shopping, restaurants and condos.

As the second largest city in Illinois, it is also a community where newly constructed condos offer river views, loft-style floor plans, rooftop decks and other appealing attributes.

A special census conducted in 2003 showed that this community west of Chicago had a population of 157,267. The results boosted Aurora from third largest city to second just behind the leader (Chicago).

The city was nicknamed the City of Lights in 1908 because it was one of the first communities to adopt all-electric street lighting. Today, it boasts many other assets including two large shopping malls, Westfield Shoppingtown Fox Valley and Chicago Premium Outlets.

Aurora was originally two towns. McCarty Mills was on the east side of the Fox River. Hartford was on the west side of the river. The two towns incorporated as one in the mid-1800s.

Today, condos are sprouting along the river. Aurora, which has a long history as a manufacturing center, is seeing construction of loft-style condos and other upscale units in its downtown district.

The River Street Plaza Lifestyle Conominiums are nestled on the bank of the Fox River. This riverfront condominium community is the cornerstone of a comprehensive development plan underway in the downtown.

The centerpiece of the community is a courtyard with a waterfall and limestone pool, along with a landscaped river walk on the river. A diverse assortment of restaurants that will offer riverfront dining is planned for the first floor of the buildings.

One and two bedroom condos are priced from $191,400 to $355,200 and feature nine-foot ceilings, oak floors, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances and balconies and patios with spectacular views of the river or downtown Aurora.

Loft condos also can be found in Aurora. These offer open floor plans, 10 to 12 foot high ceilings, exposed spiral ductwork, track lighting and in-unit washers and dryers. Common amenities include a roof deck and party room. They are priced around the $150,000 range.

When you are not spending time in your condo, there is plenty to see and do in Aurora. It is home to the Paramount Arts Centre which offers top-name concerts and other performances in a historic setting. The theatre first opened in 1931. This art-deco style theatre was designed by nationally renowned theater architects C.W. and George L. Rapp.

They city also has a Sci/Tech Museum which provides hands-on science and interactive exhibits for children.

The Hollywood Casino is another diversion in Aurora along with a range of restaurants Walter Payton's Roundhouse Complex is one of the better known. It is a 70,000 square foot entertainment facility which houses America's Brewpub Restaurant and Bar, the America's Brewing Company, a Piano Bar, a night club, a comedy club, an open-air courtyard and the Walter Payton Museum. The structure. which once was used for railcar repair, is the oldest existing limestone roundhouses in the nation and an historic landmark.

The city has a commuter train station that provides easy access to Chicago's Loop and points in-between and is close to major expressways.

Along with lots to do, Aurora offer unique condos that are interesting places to live and sure to appreciate.
